Eagle Nests

Two Bald Eagle nests were identified in close proximately to each other during Biologist site assessments. One of these nests is obviously abandoned and is dilapidated, the second nest is occupied by a Great Horned Owl (images below). Generally, once a nest is occupied by a Great Horned Owl eagles will not return. However, in an abundance of caution, the project was designed to protect the nests.

To protect the nests, Morgan Group designed the project to meet U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) requirements. Nest protections include, but are not limited to:

  • locating all building structures outside of a 660 ft. buffer zone around the eagle nests,
  • the preservation of the tree canopy that surrounds the nests to act as a visual and wind buffer, and
  • the construction of a large pond that will serve as a buffer between resident activity and the nests.

As a result of the thoughtful design, the project has been reviewed and received a permit from the USFWS.

    Gopher Tortoises

Before any construction activities take place, all tortoises will be protected and relocated to an authorized, managed "recipient" site suitable for tortoise habitation containing a minimum of 40 acres of land, plentiful food source, and an optimal tree canopy cover.

This process is governed and permitted by The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC).
